I want more income. I want better health. I want a nice house. I want to find my ideal partner. I want to grow my business. I want good relationships with friends and family. I want to go on more holidays.
These are all perfectly reasonable requests and desires. Most people would probably have similar things on their wish list. Some people will receive these things and others will continue to want, so what makes the difference?
How or whether these things show up in our lives depends on a number of factors.
- How much are you willing to commit to and put energy in to achieving them?
- What are your beliefs around these desires? Do you believe that you deserve them? That you are worthy enough? That they are realistic?
- Why do you want these things? What benefit would they bring to you and others?
- Are you open to opportunities that could lead to these situations?
When we put our wants and desires out into the world it’s important to consciously consider these questions and factors.
Is what we say we want, truly in alignment with our deeper wants and desires? If not, the message can be unclear and weaker and therefore unlikely to happen. It’s the same if we have limiting beliefs around what we want. It’s like putting out a mixed signal to the universe; e.g. I want a new partner but I don’t feel worthy of being loved. I want that promotion at work but don’t really feel like I have the necessary skills. The universe can only act on clear messages. Put vagueness out there, get vagueness back.
Also, if what we want isn’t for the greater good or takes advantage of other people then it’s likely not to appear or if it does there will be a sting in the tail later down the line.
When we have clarity about what we want, the next step is to focus our intentions and be ready to take action. Things may not just land on our lap but we will be given opportunities that lead to our desires – it’s up to us to take them.
Say for example you want to get fitter. You might be presented with various signs and options such as: a new gym opens up round the corner, your friend decides they want to run the half marathon and asks you to be their training buddy, a neighbour is selling their push bike or you see a charity challenge hike that you’d like to do. These are all opportunities for you to work on your fitness; it’s up to you to take action and demonstrate your level of desire.
We can’t just ask for something and then expect things to happen without putting the effort in. However, it’s also not about forcing things. We need to be clear about what we want, focus our intention, take appropriate action and then let go of the outcome. We have to trust that we will get what we asked for or get to where we want to be, even if it seems to be a meandering journey. When we start to force what we want we start to create a level of resistance and that slows things down.
When we start to act as if we already have what we desire, the level of resistance goes down. This is where gratitude comes in. When we express gratitude for what we already have and all the opportunities that come our way it’s like thanking the universe and letting it know that we are happy to receive. More on gratitude in another blog.
To summarise:
- Be clear on what you want and make sure it’s in alignment with your deeper desires
- Set an intention, commit and take appropriate action
- Look out for opportunities
- Believe you already have what you want and express gratitude
- Trust the process and let go of the outcome
